EMG's can't split....

Why is it that active pups can't split? what is it about the design? I know the only active EMG that can "split" is the 89, which has a single coil built right in front of the humbucker. So why can't the pups be split, and what makes them so special.

Trust me, you wouldn't want the EMG's splittable. They don't split because it's not coils like a passive pickup, it's all cased in the pickup casing (no duh...it's called casing...). My pickups are splittable from the tone knob push/pull, and I really never use the single coils.

I'm sure if you have enough money, they'll make you anything. Why do you want to split them anyways

Re: EMG's can't split....

theres very little coiling in EMG pups, its all in the onboard active preamp... splitting the coils means there has to be a switch before the preamp, which requires an extra circuit, yadda yadda. i run an 81 and 89 combo..

besides, the 89 is pretty much an 85 in HB mode, and thats one hell of a nice pup for the bridge. do yourself a favour and get an 85/89 for the bridge rather than the 81, its what i wish i'd done
