I just won one from Avatar Speakers off of ebay, anyone have one? What do you think? It's listed as being for a closed back cab, so how much would be lost in an open back application?
JumpMarine said:Here's my first impressions of this speaker. Great mids and low end, smooth but not spikey top end, VERY loud. I put it in my JCM combo cab first and didn't like the results at all. When I had it pulled away from the wall it lost a ton of lowend out the back of the open cab. I then pushed the cab against the wall to cap off some of the lost lowend. It helped, but it was a bit much for the tubes and caused a bit too much vibration. I then put it in my extention 1x12 cab. The lowend came back some since the cab has a 2/3 closed back. I also pushed this cab against the wall to seal off the back and the lowend really came out. Can't wait to try this in a fully closed or front ported cab. This speaker really shines under gain but loses some of the chimeyness that I got when playing my Tele neck pup clean through the stock Celestion G12 Heritage speakers. I'll add to this post as the speaker breaks in more.

That's originally what I was bidding for, but just missed it. I really liked the tone data on this one.Scott_F said:the texas heats are more like traditional Jensen c12's.
Scott you sure have good taste in gear!Scott_F said:I have two Red Fangs in my Bad Cat. Very nice speakers. Similar to the Celestion Blues that are twice as much.
I also put a pair of Texas Heats into my 68 Pro Reverb and it helped tremendously. I like them a lot.
In fact, I put a set of 10" Copperheads in my 2x10 5F4 Tweed Super and they sound great in there.
I guess I have 6 of them in total. What does that tell you? (either I'm dense or I like them a lot, you choose)

You just can't beat getting these on Ebay, straight from Avatar Speakers for around $45-55.
