Eminence Speaker question.

I emailed them about a hard rock/metal 12" speaker and these were the speakers they suggested. Does anyone know which one's have the best tight low end? This is for a 25 watt solid state amp.

Man O War, the Governor, Texas Heat, the Tonker, Black Powder and Swamp Thang.

Re: Eminence Speaker question.

for open back, black powder would be hard to beat for hardrock/metal.

Re: Eminence Speaker question.

I only have experience with similar the similar speakers, GT-75 = man o war
vintage 30 = governor. Based off that the gt-75 has a tight bottom end, but a scooped mids. The vintage 30 I think may have just a bit looser bottom end and the it's the reverse where it has alot of mids.

Re: Eminence Speaker question.

I really like the new line of Eminences, but for your style, I'd avoid the Tonker. Great cleans, but I found it to be fizzy for OD tones. I have heard opinions contrary to mine on that, but that was the conclusion I reached after using them w/three different tube amps (Hiwatt, Fender and Marshall), both straight in, and w/a Maxon 808 OD pedal.

I have some Swamp Thangs in a 1960B, and the low-end is great. Nice & Tight, & Defined. They were a vast improvement over the stock G1275's which were in there originally, IMO.

Re: Eminence Speaker question.

Not to hijack, but which eminence speaker is a Classic Lead 80 clone?

I don't remember seeing that one covered in the Red Coat series; at least it wasn't put in terms of that particular spkr.
