engl thunder (322) speaker configuration internal/external

Hi Folks,

my Engl Thunder 50 as an internal 8Ohm Speaker (Vintage 30) and allows
me to connect an additional external 8Ohm SpeakerCab.

is it ok to connect an external cab with two 16Ohms in parallel ?
i know it's theoretically ok, but has anybody made positive or negative
expierience with such a setup.

if i understand that correct, the amp has two different windings/transformer
outs for 8 or 16ohms. eg if i use the internal speaker w 8 ohms and an ext
cab with 8 ohms it will connect them serial and use the 16ohm winding.
(i know, i have to choose the correct plugs on the back).

in my case this would be an 8 ohm speaker in serial with two 16ohm speakers
in parallel. isn't that bad in terms of damping factor?

btw i planned to use two eminence legend gb12 /16 in my ext cab

wouldn't it be the 'best' configuration to use two 16ohms in parallel?
(so one in the combo, one in the external cab)
why does engl then buildin an 8ohm speaker?

sry, so many questions - need input ;-)

cheers
Martin

didn't anyone ever connect a 212 cab to a combo? :eek13:

Baltar, before I got an Engl 1x12 vintage extension cab, I used a Marshall 1936 2x12 with my Screamer 50. However, the Marshall is a stereo cab which you can connect at either 8 or 16 ohm, so it wasn't a problem. Not 100% sure you can do what your suggesting. In theory, it's right but in practice dunno:dunno:
