Epi nighthawk pickup switch.

Just purchased an Epi nighthawk. SD has a new pickup coming out to replace the bridge humbucker that I intend on getting. My problem is I cannot find any info about replacing the neck and middle. The neck is a mini humbucker. Does anyone know if SD minihumbuckers will fit with no modification. Also, the middle is an NSX single coil. Have no ideal what that is. Again, will any SD single coil fit with no modification or is the NSX a different size. I looked on SD website advertising their replacement slanted humbucker for the bridge and the picture of the nighthawk shows a SD pickup in the middle position. I called SD and they told me they didn't make one for it. Very confused. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Epi nighthawk pickup switch.

Why do you want to replace all of the pups? What are you trying to achieve?

The SD minibuckers should fit. What don't you like about the stock mini?

Problem with the slanted hummer is that you have very limited options for replacement.

Re: Epi nighthawk pickup switch.

To clarify, I purchased but have not received the Epi yet. Don't know if I will replace until I hear them but 9 times our of 10 I switch pickups unless it is a high end guitar. My experience with Epis is they are ok pickups but not as good as SD, or others that I won't mention on this forum. Thanks for the info.

Re: Epi nighthawk pickup switch.

I always preferred the Blueshawk and Li'l Lucille models over the Nighthawk. Hence, my suggestion for the neck position pickup is a P90.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Re: Epi nighthawk pickup switch.

You may just find that the existing mini in the neck is pretty good. I really don't like any of the conventional hummers that come in Epis, mud city, but the mini is really good sounding. Wasn't the mini first produced by Epi?

Don't know anything about the slant style hummer. Try it first and see how it sounds.

Re: Epi nighthawk pickup switch.

This is a shot in the dark, but I believe the neck mini-humbucker can be replaced with either an sm-1, sm-2 or sm3. The middle single coil should also be replaceable with any standard single coil (Be advised though that this pickup is 2 conductor and the nighthawk does have a special 5-way switch installed, so you will not be able to do splitting on the middle single coil if you can a 4-conductor model).

I'm more interested in how the replacement bridge humbuckers sound. I noticed that Seymour Duncan has yet to post some clips of how they sound. I'm on the fence as to whether I want the 59 or JB

Re: Epi nighthawk pickup switch.

Welcome to the forum! I like the nighthawks.. If I wasnt in downsize mode, Id grab one. The good news is that seymour duncan is now offering replacement pups for the slanted bridge pup. Jb and 59. Both are excellent choices!!

Re: Epi nighthawk pickup switch.

yes I also want to go with a JB or 59 slant but have no idea when they are going to be available. Looked everwhere for a release date but can't find anything. I have my nighthawk in hand and can't wait to make the switch. Hope they are available soon.
