Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

I have been here many years. It's just the way I type. Every body else is used to it or just has the good manners to answer the question with out being an azz. So if you can not offer any thing positive to my question just stay the hell off of it.

That was a readable post! I'm just ribbin' ya, relax :laugh2:

As for your question, the usual suspects for replacement on import guitars are pickups & electronics. Sounds like you already decided to swap pickups so you might as well see if the pots, switch, & wiring are to your liking while you're in there.

Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

I am relaxed...lol
no worries....Have a good day mr.fretfire. and if i took your post more serious than needed, i apologize....and thank you for the input on the topic.

Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

I will ask the the standard question on new used guitar day......What Seymour pick ups sound good in a Epi Studio Les Paul? I like a sound thats metal...not to bright...but not all dark and doomy either. I would like it to sound something like it's name sake.

Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

you should change all the hardware (nut, tuners, bridge, tailpiece, knobs) as well as all the electronics and controls (pots, caps, jack, pickup switch.....)

Once you get all the hardware and electronics changed out and drop a nice set of pickups in it, you shouls have a pretty sweet guitar

Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

funny you mentioned the nut...its on my list as well...the guitar has a cheap plastic looking one..it needs one from bone..the knobs are ok..i wont mess with them....grover tuners will be used..tone pro bridge is on the list.

Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

upon closer inspection,it has grover tuners...dont know if thats a stock part for this guitar or if it has been modified....and thanks for any and all feedback

Heh, in other words he should just buy another guitar that already has the components it needs.

Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

its loads cheaper to change electronics and stuff out rather than get a new guitar. A lot of people here do it

I would give you more fun. I would also give you more customized to taste. I cant give you cheaper though. Not saying hes needs to do other than what hes done, but from a cost standpoint, unless its just the fun you are after, sometimes you are just better off getting what you want in the guitar to begin with. The upgrade stuff adds up in a hurry. Also depends on the quality of parts you are upgrading with, but lets assume good quality name brand stuff. Just for comparison.

He paid 280 for the guitar
130 bucks for SD pickups
70 bucks for tuners
116 bucks for bridge/tailpiece
70 bucks for electronics, pots, wire, switch, jack etc.
40 bucks knobs
approx 10-75 bucks for a new nut depending on self install or having a tech do it.

total - $781

In comparison, lets go with our old friend the Agile. Good to go. Brand new $570

You dont get the ability to pick exactly what you want unless you custom order, but you do get alot more extras like ebony board and binding an epi studio wouldnt have. Theres even a couple hundred bucks room for some upgrade fun here. Swap the graphite nut for bone, add a switchcraft toggle etc.

Chrome hardware, including die-cast Grover tuners with 18-1 turning ratio for ultra fine tuning (Model 102-18N)
Two EMG Pickups(81/85).
The AL-3100 features D'addario strings installed at the factory and a professionally cut Graph Tech graphite nut
Graph Tech NVS2 Reso Max bridge with String Saver graphite saddles.

Or used. LTD ec-1000ctm. Good to go $575 BIN on the bay. Couple hundred room if you want to take out the emgs for a set of duncans. These typically come with ESP locking tuners and Ton Pros locking bridges.

Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

I'll add to B&C's post - at $780 you're into used Gibson LP Studio territory, where you'll probably find better pieces of wood than the Epi Studio.

Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

Honestly, thats why I dont even bother buying a cheap guitar and upgrading the parts. Id rather buy an expensive guitar and only swap out maybe the pickups.

I have been gasing for an LTD ec-1000 though! the sunburst model with the JB/Jazz combo rather than the EMG's

it has a color changing metalic finish...depending on the way the light works it..its green or changes to purple

It is an epiphone les paul studio...complete with that ugly ass epi head stock

it looks mint, cant find a scratch on it

got it for 279 bucks

all i want is the body..im gonna have to gut it and put new pick ups in it....but i just really liked the look of the finish

Re: epi studio..i bought one used.

I have an Epi LP Studio, basically a Std without the binding. Came with Grover Rotomatics, which are rugged and reliable. A lot of guitar for the money. I replaced the PU's to a couple of used Duncans. If you also sink the money into it to replace all the hardware, electronics, etc you would have been better off buying a more expensive guitar in the first place, like a used Gibson LP Studio. It's an Epi; keep it affordable, keep it simple. The single biggest improvement you can make is better PU's, does more for the tone than everything else combined. If the rest of it is working, stop there. It's a player. Don't make it a major investment.

I agree. No need to spend more on upgrades than you did on the guitar itself. You'll get zero of that investment back in the event you sell the guitar anyways.
