epi vs. gibson

so i'm thinking of buying a les paul bc i really want to put some phat cats in it. the only thing is, gibsons are so expensive. are the epiphones comparable, or should i shell out the extra cash for an lp special?

IMO the only similarity between them would be the shape... they are pretty much 2 different creatures

Get the LP Special.. but be warned that a fullsize LP with PC or P-90s will sound notably different from an LP special, the thinner body and lack of maple cap really stand out tonally IMO
