Past few days I have been experimenting and comparing the Epiphone Alnico Classic Pros to Epiphone Probuckers 2 and 3 in my Epiphone SGs and Les Paul Custom. I have two SGs that are basically same (even weigh the same at 6.8 lbs). Only difference is the SG Custom has a Graph Tech bone nut, CTS pots, and the SG G-400 Pro doesn't. G-400 has Alpha pots. Both pickup sets are really different. After playing each SG guitar one after the other on the same settings and pickup height, with one with the Probuckers and the other with Alnico Classic Pro, I prefer the Alnico Classic Pros in an SG in the end. And the Probuckers in a Les Paul. Maybe it's the extra weight in a Les Paul is why the Probuckers sound better to my ear. I don't know. They're lower output for sure and have less bite, less mids. Warmer. Both sets are excellent, though, and it just comes down to personal preference really.
Next up is to test covered vs uncovered with these pickups.
