Re: epiphone firebird

I've always wanted to play one, but unfortunately I've never even seen them around in any shops .

Re: epiphone firebird

I've played a Thunderbird bass before & it was super nice...surprisingly comfortable. A lot like a Ric...they look like a 20lb. club, but not nearly as heavy.

I'm wonderring what those mini-hums sound like!!!

I think the Thunderbird was Nikki Sixx's favorite bass.

I always wanted to play a Firebird. They look very classy and I have a feeling that playing one would definitely inspire me. I'm not so sure that minibuckers will give me the tone I want, I actually think I'm a single coil kinda guy.

Re: epiphone firebird

I love 'birds. I have owned a Thunderbird, it is a bit large for most small places though. I used to smack that sucker into everything. Nothing sounds like a T-Bird, good ones have almost a piano like clarity to their tone. The length of the neck and the size of the headstock contribute heavily to that. They are a bit of a bitch to keep set up well most times you just end up keeping a little higher than normal action and it isn't a big deal.

Firebirds, oh man I have to own one sooner or later. I've played a slew of them but never could afford the ones I really liked. Pelham Blue or Inverness Green would be my likely choice. I have played an Epi and unless they changed them they have a strange string pull over the nut, not quite the same angle as a Gibson. I didn't really play it long enough to see if it would give a problem though because I wasn't too impressed with it overall. As with most Epi's I find they are very hit or miss I am sure there are good ones out there just got to play a few. I would look more towards a Japanese copy Tokai, Burny and Greco all made really nice ones and I would assume Ibanez must have though I haven't seen any. If you find a nice copy the SD Anty II's are really nice mini-hums to pop in there.

Re: epiphone firebird

Played one ... actually got kicked out of the store cause I didn't stop. Albeit it was the two pickup model.

It's on the top ten ... and yes this was an Epiphone. I've yet to compare it to a Gibson. But non the less I was very impressed with it.

Re: epiphone firebird

Isn't the Epi Bird a bolt on ?? As you can see in my Avatar I have a
Bird. It's a 76' Bi-centenial model in Excellent cond. It's got awesome
tone. I've tried the Epi bolt on bird, It's close to the real deal, But
it's missing that Zing you get with a neck thru. The PuPs where O K
But could benefit from a set of Duncan's. Tokai and Burny make
some great Budget birds.
