Re: epiphone firebird
I love 'birds. I have owned a Thunderbird, it is a bit large for most small places though. I used to smack that sucker into everything. Nothing sounds like a T-Bird, good ones have almost a piano like clarity to their tone. The length of the neck and the size of the headstock contribute heavily to that. They are a bit of a bitch to keep set up well most times you just end up keeping a little higher than normal action and it isn't a big deal.
Firebirds, oh man I have to own one sooner or later. I've played a slew of them but never could afford the ones I really liked. Pelham Blue or Inverness Green would be my likely choice. I have played an Epi and unless they changed them they have a strange string pull over the nut, not quite the same angle as a Gibson. I didn't really play it long enough to see if it would give a problem though because I wasn't too impressed with it overall. As with most Epi's I find they are very hit or miss I am sure there are good ones out there just got to play a few. I would look more towards a Japanese copy Tokai, Burny and Greco all made really nice ones and I would assume Ibanez must have though I haven't seen any. If you find a nice copy the SD Anty II's are really nice mini-hums to pop in there.
