Epiphone les paul Standard: Bridge Position sounds way too quite

Guitar info: Eipiphone Les Paul Standard from 2009?

So guys, I am having a major problem with my Epiphone's bridge pup not giving off much sound at all

Cranked up to all 10's on my Fender G-Dec3 15 it sounds faint with no gain. I can't hear it much at all till I add a considerable amount of Gain using preset 46 (High Gain). Then I tried it on my Honeytone travel amp and my brothers crate amp and still came up with very little sound from the bridge pickup.

I had the same exact problem about a month or so ago with the neck pup, and it turned out to be a volume pot. I think it maybe the same problem...

At this rate, I'm just going to replace the remaining 3 eipiphone pots with something better.


What brand pots are good for the price? And while I'm at it, how hard would it be to go ahead and set up 2 Coil Split Push pull volume pots?


The guitar is 5 going on 6 years old, and it have been a great player from day one. Don't tell the others, but this Les Pual is my favorite of my guitars. I don't plan to sell it ever.

Do a complete wiring upgrade......as well as pots the jack and switch on epis are none too reliable. CTS and switchcraft are common and easy to get hold of. The only issue is the quality pots generally will require enlarging the body holes by a small amount as they are an imperial measurement rather than metric.

Don't bet on it. It's a box style switch, right?

I did my first pickup swap in 1998 when I thought my epiphone's bridge pickup died. It was the switch, but at least I got a JB out of the ordeal.

Those dogbreath enclosed selector switches are notoriously unreliable. You also have to wonder how much of the pickup signal they are really passing on to the output jack.

Replace ASAP. If you want to get into clever wiring schemes, consider the Freeway 3x3-03 selector switch.

Replace the pickup with a Dimebucker, problem solved :bigok: lol

Epiphone makes great guitars for the price, but like MIM Fenders the electronics can always use an upgrade (from my experience anyways.)

I thought my neck went out, but the pup is making sound. It's definitely a pot or switch issue

I plan to put some nice pups like SDs in there sometime.

Really? My dad said he loves these selectors because they are so simple and reliable.

Mines been cleaned, tightened and overall been tuned up by me and my dad.

The switches are cheap and generally unreliable. There may be switches your dad has seen/used that look the same, but the epi ones that are enclosed are trouble waiting to happen. Anyhow your choice to replace/not as you see fit.

If you can keep it then definitely do–awesome memories and the fact its the first you paid $ for makes it even more personal. The Dimebucker is an awesome pickup but its definitely not for everyone, I'm just on the Sh-13 kick right now after buying one for the first time. lol

If you need a strat cheap, I've found the Epiphone Strats with the Hockey Stick headstock were cheap and super great guitars for the price. Kinda harder to find but they sounded great and played very nice for the price!

I have heard they are good, but I have my eyes on an American Standard or Highway One Fender Stratocaster.

Perhaps, you should begin a new thread, inviting modification suggestions for your Squier?

For what it is worth, MIC Squier Affinity Strats, Bullets and Hello Kitty models seem to perk up considerably after EMG active pickups are installed. Seriously.

Ahhhh! I would say for that kinda money go ahead and get an American made guitar I would say set your price range and then play the guitars in that range and pick. I really loved the Highway One, American Standard, and American Deluxe that I had...wish I still had all 3 of them! XD

Lol. I looked at upgrading the thing, but it's too much money to drop in a cheap guitar. Arnt EMG pups like $200? I am right now in favor of a used American standard.

I am going to make a thread here soon about my strat needs, but first comes fixing my les pual.
