This is probly a newb question,:smack: , but i am trying to figure out how to adjust my sg humbucker pickup height, and im having a hard time, also if anybody knows where i can get a gibson les trem for a lower price than in the stew mac catalog-http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailpieces/Electric_guitar_tremolos/1/Les_Trem_Stop-Tailpiece_Tremolos/Specs.html#details

I play a style like srv, hendrix, page, clapton, etc. can anybody help me?

Re: Epiphone SG Pickup Adjustment

You are aware that the les trem is only good for giving you vibrato, and not any kind of real whammy action, right?

Anyway, to adjust any adjustable pole piece pickup your main goal is to get all of the strings to be about the same volume. Guitars with more steel in them get picked up better, so your pole pieces should be highest under your D and high E strings, and lowest under the G and Low E strings, as they have the most metal in them.

Yea i realized that about the vibrato, i dont use whammy at all and i just wanted to add a little extra sumtihng to my playing.. but thanx for the advice.

Re: Epiphone SG Pickup Adjustment

There really is no exact science to adjusting the pickup height... Its more a preference thing... just make sure its not so high that its hitting the strings or reducing acoustic sustain...or so low it sounds like minnie mouse... generally how i will do it is I will sink all the pole pieces... then adjust the height then use the pole pieces to adjust individual string response... Usually on my neck pickups i have the Low E, A and D raised a little and the rest sunk... just depends on what you want alot of people just try to mirror the fretboard radius with them.

Re: Epiphone SG Pickup Adjustment

Yeah. It is all done by ear. I think you can get a guide for setting up guitars online, or even get the GuitarPlayer repair guide, an awesome book that covers everything from basic setups to really advanced stuff.
