Epiphone Toby Bass - the pickups suck

I have a Toby bass - plays great, feels great. Sounds great as long as I leave the blend knob in the middle..... As soon as I roll to either pickup, it's noisy as hell. The Gibson website says these pickups are humbucking. THEY LIE. Both pickups are the same size - unlike trad Fender jazz pickups. Anyone know if Duncan (or anyone else) offers quiet pickups that will fit a Toby?

It sounds like either they are single-coil pickups that buck hum when they're on together, or they are humbuckers that have been split somehow -- switch, push-pull, etc?

Maybe take a look at the wiring. I've seen 4 conductor pickups wired with one coil accidentally shorted.

Measure them, then check out the Apollo Jazz pickups. You can look at the specs for those pickups here. If you have to get 2 neck or 2 bridge pickups, just do that.

All of Gibson's current bass pickups suck.

There's a lot of Jazz style pickups on the market. Lots of them are humbucker, either stacked or split coil. A little rarer are actual humbuckers, but a few makers do pickups like that. I make a set with dual blades in a Jazz cover. Barden does too.

I watched the video about the Apollo Jazz pickups.... They sound great, but I was REALLY upset the demo had no funk or thumb playing at all. That is definitely my style, a lot of octave moves up and down the neck. And the guy didn't play any of that.

The Epiphone website says they are "Tobias TBT™ Single-Coil" pickups. It does not mention humbucking.

I have a Deluxe with the active bass boost (Tonexpressor).
The description says "dual rail humbucking"....

Ah. Then it does sound like they are not wired up correctly.
