I'm thinking about getting one of these, as i can get them for $700 Dollars AU.
Yay or Nay?! I havnt had a chance to play on yet with my guitars. Looking for a blusey/Jazzy thing that can handel some rock. Doesnt have to be Overy Distorder/Overdriven?

Re: Epiphone Valve Standard

Maybe i should just go for a Peavey Classic 30, put some new tubes, and a greenback/celestion gold in it.

Re: Epiphone Valve Standard

Doesn't the valve standard have a bunch of lame DSP effects on it...eff that shiz get a valve Jr. it's way cheap and sounds great.

Re: Epiphone Valve Standard

I was actually thinking of picking up a Valve standard awhile back (cause I dig my valve jr, so it seemed reasonable I might like the others). Tried a few out, and They're Okay, But nothing spectacular. Personally I don't think They're worth what they cost ($300 us last I checked), But That could just be me. I actually thought the Valve Special (the one with the 10" speaker) Sounded Much better, But still nothing that fantastic.

Thats just me though. I'm sure someone else will chime in an Say the exact opposite of everything I've just said, haha.

EDIT: Forgot to mention about the DSP. All the effects sound very very "strange" really digital sounding (to me at least), Not nessicarrily Sterile or anything, but just Odd and not right. The Reverb is alright though, Not great, but alright.

I think i'll go with the peavey maybe. Or i could fall back on old faithful, and get another laney ( had to sell my old one )

Re: Epiphone Valve Standard

If you can buy a Peavey Classic... go for it... I'm still on my I love Peavey run :)
I like the thing that Epiphone is going through now... they're becoming a solid company. If you don't need to use the DSP effects (and have a reverb pedal or don't need one) then it might be a good choice.
I did hear bad things about the tubes and speakers of those amps so you might have to consider doing a few mods after the purchase.

Re: Epiphone Valve Standard

I've got the special and can recommend them. Yep the DSP onboard sounds are not the greatest but I don't use them as I have a really adequate pedalboard. I chose it over the Junior as it has reverb, master volume, treble middle & bass as well as gain. Allows a bit more flexibility.

Upgraded the speaker in mine to a Celestion Tube 10 (was cheap off Fleabay) and this improved the tone alot, I will get round to changing the tubes shortly but I don't find the stock ones at all bad.

Now its probably not the greatest amp on the planet but it was in my price range and I'm happy with it. If I had more cash would I have gone for it? Maybe maybe not fancied a Hayden (Ashdown) Essex Blonde but these are double the price!
