Epiphone vs Gibson

This thread has probably been done before, but I played an Epiphone Dot the other day, and thought that even if I upgraded a few things on the guitar, the cost difference for an actual Gibson isn't really justified. Epiphone quality seems to have improved judging from what I have played lately. Paying a few hundred for the Epiphone guitar and maybe another $200-$300 for upgrades seems better than paying for the $2000-$3000 Gibsons. Gibsons look nicer, but it just doesn't justify such a high price.

Even if I had the money for a Gibson, I still wouldn't talk bad about Epiphone and people who play them.

Play the one that makes you happy. In the end that's all that really matters.......

Re: Epiphone vs Gibson

Pfft ... newb.

Gibson is for cheap kids who don't play good guitars like Collins, McInturf, or Nick Hubers

It's like cars; buy what you like and what you can afford. What you play doesn't make you more important, or less important, than anyone else. High-end guitars don't make you a better player, practicing a lot does. The only ones who get hung up on brand names are other guitarists, but at a gig, they're only a few of the people in the crowd, at best. Please yourself, don't worry about them, they'll be fine. When you walk off the stage, all that matters is how you played, not what you played it on. Does anyone think that the crowd will be patting you on the back and buying you drinks, and saying: "You played like crap tonight boy, but we love that guitar of yours." But they will do that if you dazzle then with your playing, and it's totally up to you if it's a Gibson or an Epi that's you did it with. Whatever makes you happy.

I can hold my own with any of the local blues guitarists I've seen, and I play mid-priced imports, mainly Epi's. They don't hold me back. Music's in the hands and head, you just channel it thru a guitar, which is a tool, no more, no less. Pick the tool you're comfortable with and see if you can't impress people with what your hands can do with it. On it's own, a guitar is wood, metal, and plastic; in the right hands it becomes an instrument, and creates emotion and moods. It can't do that on it's own.

Buy the Epiphone...do the upgrades and never...i repeat NEVER play a Gibson Semi-Hollow body for an extended period of time!

You'll be happy and "blissfull"!

Seriously though...buy what you can afford and make it work! Don't torture yourself over $$$!

Holy **** -

Let it be known, that in this fourteenth hour of this twentieth day of this fourth month of the year 2011 AD, I, Immortal J. Six, agreed with blueman335.

It was so, and it was good.

Peace on Earth, Amen.

Lol. I assume the previous thread like this didn't end so well?? Anyways, I agree, just go with what works for you.

Re: Epiphone vs Gibson

Blueman is right. Play the crap out of the guitar. Nobody will notice it all that much in the end.

Re: Epiphone vs Gibson

Neither as they both have incredibly flawed headstock designs.....

....but so does every other guitar besides a Steinberger! (see what I did with that?)
