My ESP had gotten destroyed by UPS and they are backordered everywhere until April. Now should I order another ESP EC-1000 (I LOVE this guitar, it just feels and sounds perfect to me) or should I get the Carvin California Carved Top CT3M. It's the solid mahogany one with no maple cap. I'd get it in solid pearl white and then put duncans in it. The price is right, right now because carvin guitars are $100 off and options are 50% off which puts it at about the same price range as the ESP ($700-$800). What do you think?

Looks like that might answer your question ;).

Well, I own an ESP (H-400 Ltd) and three Carvins (DC series). And although the 400 isn’t quite up to snuff with the 1000 you are looking at, the Carvins leave my ESP in the dust. The quality and feel to me of the Carvins is far superior.

What guitar you like to play, however, is a very personal opinion. For you, the ESP may very well be a better choice. My weapon of choice is Carvin, all the way.

Wanna buy an ESP? =p

Didn't you just sell that axe though?

Yeah, in order to purchase an ESP model eclipse II or similiar. I decided not to go that route and since I already sold it, I was just going to replace it with the same. I didn't really lose much money on the deal though. UPS ended up damaging it and I got my money back anyway.

Those ESPs are dead sexy! I'd love one in black... :32:

Re: ESP EC-1000 or Carvin CT3M California Carved Top?

I really dig the look of the Carvin, and if its the same quality like the others I have played I don't think you will be dissapointed, unless you try to sell it then you will have a bad resale value.

Re: ESP EC-1000 or Carvin CT3M California Carved Top?

If you love the ESP you cant go wrong, depends on how you respond to a carvin.

+1

A few folks will chime in abour hwo well Carvins hold their value. And usually these are the same people with a Carvin to sell. A Carvin 7 string recently didn't sell around here over a 2 months stretch in which the seller came down over $300.

The ESPs however are getting a ton of attention lately. If you know that you already like it then I would stick to it. Wait a month; there will be no chance of dissapointment with it.

Re: ESP EC-1000 or Carvin CT3M California Carved Top?

Carvin's kick a ton of ass...I actually liked the ones I played at the Carvin shop in Hollywood more than the EC1000 in black. But I'm a superstrat kind of guy, so I might be just a tad biased.

I think the answer might end up being........both!

I may sell my parker nitefly to fund the purchase. Stay tuned for that one.

Actually I've never heard that Carvins hold their resale value. Quite the contrary. But I have no intention of ever selling my Carvins - they're that good. I might point out that many ESP models don't resell well either. I've listed my H-400 on ebay 3 times and I can't get anywhere near what I paid for it.

Oh I'm still gonna do it, that's on my list. I think that's going to be my summer project. I still keep flip flopping on what options I want, so I'll wait and put more thought into it. I'm going to do it at some point though. Question, does the one you bought have the contoured heel? If not, does it get the in the way of higher fret access.

Guitarguy503- The parker is a superb instrument but the compound radius and thin wide neck don't work very well for my hands. I usually prefer a rounder neck, flat radius, and narrower string spacing. I have long thin fingers. I'm not digging the tone that much anymore either, it's not bad, but not my cup of tea either. Has a solid maple body which lends a lot of brightness, snap, and attack.

Re: ESP EC-1000 or Carvin CT3M California Carved Top?

Carvin all the way. It's Us made to your specs.

Besides, when was the last time you could order an ESP with Stainless steel frets straigth from the factory? :naughty:

Re: ESP EC-1000 or Carvin CT3M California Carved Top?

ok well if that's still a go for later then get the ESP hands down!! great guitars IMO...i was never a huge fan of carvin...not bad at all real nice guitars, just not "me" for lack of a better way of explaining it.

as for the warmoth strat i just got, it's got a standard strat style heel and i have no problems with that since i play strats and tele's all the time so getting to the high frets for me is no problem.
