Esquire switch question

I came across this thread in a search and i wonder, i have an esquire and i have soldered the pickup direct to the jack because i don't use the switch, volume or tone, can i solder back the 3-way switch and use the tone cap to have any use of the real esquire wiring? I can solder back the tone control just to make the wiring work.

Can i use the standard esquire wiring without the volume control?

You can do just about anything if you wire it up right. :)

So, for a 3-way, you might have:

1. no tone
2. tone control
3. tone preset on zero

. . . or you could do:

1. no tone
2. tone with .022uf
3. tone with .047uf (or any cap value you wanted)

The skies the virtual limit.

See the two wires that go to the volume pot lugs? Just connect them together and leave out the volume pot. In other words, go straight from the switch to the output jack. Those other connections are just grounds. Ground them all to the back of the tone pot instead.

Edit: You may want to solder a 250k resistor across the output jack lugs to simulate the load of a 250k volume pot.

Sure. The tone control is connected to a different part of the circuit. Just leave it where it is.

I'm just heading out the door to work, but if you'ld like, I can mod that diagram to show exactly what I mean. You'ld just need to wait 'til morning.

More importantly that how is why...why would you want a guitar w/o a volume control??? Do you use a volume pedal??

While we're on the subject standard Esquire wiring can be quite useful...my Esquire is wired just like the diagram you liked to and I love it...I roll the ton control down a little to roll off just enough highs to make it warm and a little thicker and leave it there, then wiht just the 3 way I can go from full on bassy thickness to a nice thick but still cutting tone of to full on steely bright in the last position...love it!

Oh Artie! I wonder, if i want a mute setting for my guitar can i get a 4-way switch? Does your wiring schematic need any modification for this?
