Esquire Wiring Question

Hey there fellow Esquire players:

I'm not sure if this is even possible, but is there a manner where you can wire the neck position to have a clean, distortionless tone instead of the bassy dark tone? Not looking to do the Eldred mod, which I think is really and most likely will try it at some point, but I wasn't sure if it's even possible, or the right cap value/wiring configuration can achieve this. Thanks.

Re: Esquire Wiring Question

Er, "clean, distortionless" sounds like a description of the other two selections available on the lever switch.

Perhaps, all that you really require is a volume pot and a Fender No-Load tone control. If the three-way switch remains in circuit at all, it is to select differing capacitor values or something.

Re: Esquire Wiring Question

i use a tapped tele pup in my esquire. pos1= tapped output with treble roll off pos2= tapped output with tone control pos3= full output with no tone control. thats the most versatile setup ive come up with using just the std switch with no p/p pots

i get a pseudo neck pup tone, a bright traditional tele bridge tone, then a fatter thicker hotter tone.

IMO, this circuit is about as good as an Esquire can get. On the other hand, I have never tried the SD Custom Shop BG and Li'l Pearly Gates for Telecaster pickups.

To my way of thinking, the whole point of Fender Esquires (and Gibson Les Paul Juniors) is that they are so utterly basic that there is nowhere to hide. You gotta play yo' tail off.
