Essential FX Pedals

Hey hey hey :D

I would like to know what essential guitar Fx pedals (compression, tube Screamer, chorus... etc). Will you as a guitar player never leave out of your 'rigs' ?

Thanx

Re: Essential FX Pedals

With the right guitar guitar and amp I can plug straight in and be just fine as long as I can crank the amp up a bit however my "must have" pedals are an OD/Distortion of some kind a tuner and a wah pedal I use that as a base and add to it depending on what I want to do/hear...

Right now for example Im running a Boss tuner, Teese wah, Foxrox Octron, AM Beano Boost, AM King of Tone, AM Fuzz Face and an Echoplex...sounds like a lot but I use most of it pretty sparingly and try to get the most out of each effect

Re: Essential FX Pedals

As someone who loves pedals and effects, none. I have no problem with a rig from guitar to amp to something with 20 pedals, as long as they're all used correctly.

Re: Essential FX Pedals

The only pedal I consider essential in my rig is a tuner. If I had to choose one other, it would likely be some kind of boost. Right now, I really like my SG into a BSM OR Treble Booster, then right into a cranked AC30.

Re: Essential FX Pedals

Menatone Fish Factory is my only essential pedal...got the Plexi set for edge-of-break-up clean; 'Red Snapper' side of the FF for bluesy leads and the 'Blue Collar' side for fat riffs and solos. Three great rock/blues tones all set - that's all I need.

Re: Essential FX Pedals

To be honnest, I like to have a good set of pedals in my rig ( maybe to hide my noob-ness, lol).

To me, I need a good distortion or fuzzbox, a good reverb if the amp doesn't already have one, and a wah.

My playing just would not be the same without those three elements.

( Currently, I use a EH big muff pi, a vox wah, and amp reverb from my fender blues deluxe reissue...)

Re: Essential FX Pedals

Totally depends on the gig and style I'm playing.

If I'm doing a funk set, I'm defiantly going to watn my Qtron, Phaser, Comp and Wah, but if we are talking about a bluesy rock thing, then the Qtron certainly wouldn't be as needed now would it ?

+1. I love the Boss TU-2 not only for tuning but also for the effect to mute the guitar by activating it.

That said, I'd have to go with the Tubescreamer. When I don't use it on rhythm it makes a great boost to my lead playing.

Re: Essential FX Pedals

i couldnt make cool, spaced out rock without my delays. other than that..... i can live without my other pedals, even the fuzz.

Re: Essential FX Pedals

my chain will soon be;

tu2-parapedal-maxon od9 pro+-eq-chorus-delay. Powered with voodoo pp2

Re: Essential FX Pedals

My Ernie Ball Volume Pedal. More in between tones than volume knobs and pedals will ever get!

After that, a Boss Tuner and a tube overdrive (for leads).

Re: Essential FX Pedals

Depends on the music style I'm playing but always need these:

Budda Bud-Wah+
Barber Tone Press compressor
Xotic BB preamp (for boost/slight OD/EQ)

My amp is the Epiphone Valve Junior head with just a volume control so these pedals are extremely helpful to create sounds!

Re: Essential FX Pedals

please, for the love of the land, make sure you have a tuner! you'd be surprised at how many people buy pedals and don't get a tuner.
My must haves are a OD, Dist, chorus, and a Delay. that is if i can't crank my amp up....is there anything better than natural overdrive?

Re: Essential FX Pedals

depends on my set up... i have various... i almost always have a Boss Flanger or Chorus on most set ups

Re: Essential FX Pedals

I would say my Boss BD-2, 10-band eq, and my wah... wait thats all i have lol. Then again i also use 2 amps at the same time and use the Blues Driver to crunch, and the 10 band as a boost with the highs rolled off for tube saturation on my Alamo 1x10 combo.

Re: Essential FX Pedals

John Spina TS9, Ibanez CS9 chorus and I am cool. Ideally I would have my Bad Horsie but those two are essential ..... of course Duncan Invader in the bridge is a must too.

Re: Essential FX Pedals

I have a line6 verbzilla, keeley mod ts9, and a dunlop crybaby hooked up all the time and used whenever I need em. I also have a boss octave and digitech whammy that I never use. I wanna get a good delay, chorus, and flanger.

Re: Essential FX Pedals

I can get away with just a single channel good clean amp but usually need a second channel or pedal. Lately as I dont have a pedalboard as such I've been using single channels (mainly my pro junior or dad's ac30 when playing at home) and my Indyguitarist Modded DS-1. But alot of my bands songs get along fine with just one clean sound that said sound better when i have distortion and wah (not necessarily at the same time but they are useful effects for me) and two drives are better as I can use them for different uses lead vs rythmn vs solos.
