Ever had a horrible sounding bridge pickup + good neck pickup = heaven?

Here's my story. U.S. Masters LeGrand Strat. Could not even sell it for $400.00 with case. These are $1,400 new. Had installed fender tex-mex pickups cause they sounded good in the 2 and 4 positions. Bridge on it's own sounded something horrible, thin, harsh, brittle....completely unusable. Now this GTR has only one master volume, no tone controls.

I end up only wiring the neck and bridge only with 3-way switch (tele style). Sounds much better. Installed an SD lipstick pickup in the neck and turned the bridge pickup upside down so the stagger is the opposite from where it should be (lower poles on the low e and a)....played in the middle position-bridge and neck together...OMG!!!!!! Just incredible!!! Neck and neck/bridge can be used for anything!

Tried other bridge pickups (SD lipstick bridge, several dimarzios)...nothing gave it that clean jangle and body like the tex-mex bridge and lipstick neck working together. my EQ pedal could not compensate...just magic together, especially when working the volume control with overdrive...great with effects as well.

Anyone had similiar experiences?

I'm a fan of the mix between the Full Shred bridge and Duckbucker, gives a nice Mark Knopfler style quack. I quite like the tex mex pickups, or atleast I like the neck pickup, sounds chunky and clear to me, long since I've used the bridge pickup I had.

Not really had the same experience with a pickup that i "dont" like though.
