Yes, I routed my neck slot in a MIM Tele for a Custom Phat Cat, but I go impatient waiting for the pickup so I routed deeper and installed a Phat Staple neck pup. That involved removing too much wood too close to the neck pocket and it adversely affected the tone/resonance. It hurt everything with the exception of the price of the guitar on the black market.

Yes. Adding string through on a Tele, and it didn't come out perfectly straight. It frustrates me to no end. It functions perfectly and caused no issues, and it's on the back. It just annoys the hell out of me.

That's one of the hardest things to get right. Still, it's on the back, nobodies looking!

I recently tried to stripe the headstock on my explorer, EVH-style. The paint somehow went through the tape and smudged the entire thing. From a distance it looks decent, but up close you can really see how I butchered it

3M makes some really good plastic tape available at Auto -paint dealers , then regular where it's not critical . I can usually fix a mistake like that but it depends on the order of apllication and curing, etc. Patience is Always the rule of them when using finishes ( + most everything when building for awesome outcome . Just finished a Christmas build for a youngster ~ came out Awesome but had to have major patience with some Murphy-law bumps in the road .

I've never done a mod that I have regretted (and I've done a lot of mods). But I've done some that I ended up not liking. So I just re-modded them to get what I liked. Most mods are not irreversible.

But it is pretty stunning the things people have done or attempted to do to guitars just around here, so you never really know...

Yeah. I routed for a floyd and shaved the neck of an old les paul my grandpa gave me. Added a middle single coil too while I was at it.
In the end the neck warped and the floyd made it ugly and unplayable so I threw it away. No biggy, he told me he had bought it in the late fifties/early 60s so it was too old to be worh anything right??

Only mods I regretted, were ones where I screwed up the execution and wished Id have left alone... But, in the end I was happy with the result. Example: My Squier strat..(This was my learn to mod guinea pig) Wanted Sperzels on it.. Drilling hole for the set pin. All the way thru. (putty stick touch up) Then, opening the last hole (closest to the neck) for the shaft to go through, and POW!!! Snapped off the corner of the headstock! %#!%%@#$^&%#$
Well, I learned I must graduate up to size on bits. And learned what an amazing tool Elmers wood glue is!

As far as regretting the mods themselves.. IIRC, all have been reversible.
