Everything Axe set

Savoy

Hey I got a question for anyone! I've just installed an Everything Axe set into my Stratocaster, and I was wondering if someone can suggest an optimum height adjustment for these pickups. I'm getting a bit of a weak sound, when I was expecting something fairly brash.

Individually the pickups are: Bridge: SJBJ-1b (JB, Jr.), Middle: SDBR-1n (Duckbucker), Neck: SL59-1n (Little '59)

Thanks in advance to anyone able to help out!

I was just looking at this set for 205.95 at musican's friend. Are they not as good as the reviews let on?

I've heard then on another Strat - they do smoke, but I just don't have the right adjustment yet.

Re: Everything Axe set

Here's what I do:

I lay the guitar "on its back" with pickups facing straight up. I then set the neck pickup height by fretting the high E on the highest fret and stackign two pennies on top of it. I wiggle the high E as if I'm doing a string bend, and adjust height. If the pennies move, the string is contacting them, so usually I back off the pickup until the pennies aren't moving, i.e. the string is just barely not touching them.

Then for the middle pickup: a penny and a dime.

For the bridge pickup, two dimes.

That's the way I do it.

I would say just monkey with it. Or, go to barnes and noble and look it up, and don't buy the book!

Re: Everything Axe set

I just did it by ear. I have the Lil 59 with the bobbin about 2 or 3 mm out of the pickguard, and the sound is still pretty pounding. I have the Duckbucker raised up a little higher, so the output is matching the neck pickup, and the bridge pickup falls somewhere in between in height. But I do it by ear with the purpose of getting an even output response from the pickups. I'm wondering if something is wired wrong in your guitar, because mine sound quite intense.
