EVH Wah

Re: EVH Wah

anyone have a list of VH songs where Ed actually uses a wah?? all i can think of is Runaround.

i do like the two blue LEDs though, gotta be honest about that hehehe.

A wah makes a brief appearance on Poundcake as well as Me Wise Magic, IIRC.

Re: EVH Wah

This is just plain dumb. MXR doesn't have to treat us like idiots thinking we'll buy something because EVH gives his name to it.

We won't buy it, but MXR (Dunlop) probably has done enough marketing research to know it's profitable enough for them to go ahead and put these electronic farces on the music store shelf.

We can laugh about it all we want -- and I'm right here laughing with you, bro -- but the reality is that it's about business, not music. It's a profit margin and a bottom line, and EVH is in that equation.

It's not for us to say what Dunlop or EVH should or shouldn't do; we can just decide to buy quality gear, and leave the third-rate marketing ploys for someone else. If someone wants to lay out cash for crap in a box, that's their business. This isn't the first time we've seen this, and it certainly won't be the last.

On the other extreme is the so-called boutique pedal that goes for $500 on eBay. Maybe it's a backlash against stuff like what Dunlop's doing, maybe not. Here's the real bottom line: Is it worth the money? That's up to the buyer and the buyer alone.

Re: EVH Wah

But guys, aren't you all losing the appeal of having another striped pedal to match the other striped pedals on your pedalboard? Sheer genius I tell 'ya, sheer genius... I'm waiting for the Dunlop striped stompbox tuner next...

In and Out and Runaround on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album are two that come to mind.

He also used it on a few recordings he has done for an adult movie - I remember a lot of Youtube vids going around in the forum when he was at it. Unlike in the two songs mentioned above - his tone there was crap... something like a cheap Vai or Satriani impression.

EVH - From a guitar prodigy to an aging salesman. A little sad, isn't it.

Re: EVH Wah

That was my first thought too. Maybe Push Comes to Shove?

i don't remember hearing a wah on that song.... lots of volume fade ins but no wah that i can remember

The Balance era was when Ed seemed to use his Wah a lot... live he used it a fair bit on that tour

Re: EVH Wah

There's only one signature wah I want, and that's the Teese RMC Joe Walsh sig wah.
I want one of those pretty badly, and at $200, it's a far better value than this Dunlop EVH.

Joe Walsh is kool.

Flames on a blue wah?

That's kool too.

BTW ~ I don't know any of these Van Halen tunes that were mentioned besides Poundcake...

Are they Van Hager tunes?
