Experience with Various Greenback Clones

Looking at the various greenback clones for a new 2x12 cab I am ordering. Unfortunately two original greenback are only 50w which is not enough power handling.

Been looking at the Emi Private Jack, Scumback M75's, WGS Invader and Reaper HP. What are your experiences with these or other similarGB flavored speakers?

Re: Experience with Various Greenback Clones

I love WGS stuff. Great stuff, good prices. What kind of amp are you using these with>

Re: Experience with Various Greenback Clones

The WGS Green Beret is awesome. A little more aggressive bite that the original. Loud and clear crunch. Decent low end. Not huge but not small either.
As for the Eminence, I am told that the Legend GB12 is the one of the best Greenback clones. But I haven't played through one...and have no experience with the Invader or Scumback.
I would look at WGS ET65's which are similar in nature to Greenbacks. The mids are almost the same, but the lows are tighter and clearer. The highend is rolled off somewhat too. Great sounding cone breakup when pushed.

the green beret is 25w...
I liked a lot the emis GB12...great great woody tone and I think they sound fuller than greenbacks under gain..

Re: Experience with Various Greenback Clones

Another vote for the Emi GB12. To my knowledge, they are no longer available in 16 Ohm.....
Best

I used Scumback M75s for about 3 years and have recently swapped to Emminence Wizards/Swamp Thangs.

What would you like to know?

Re: Experience with Various Greenback Clones

How much power do you need?
you could email Weber speakers and ask if they can do a GB clone with a little higher power handling. I'm pretty sure they'll do it with no problems.
I use a 25W weber GB (the british series "1225") and it's very detailed and clear, and though it sounds bright at lower volumes, it smoothes out a lot when pushed.
Some people have said I should've gone with a scumback. I haven't compared them but I'm not in a hurry to. Weber makes great stuff by hand and that's all I need.

This is true...8 ohm only.

The Emi Legend GB128 is my favorite speaker.

Think everything you like about a 25w GreenBack only a little more articulate, plus a 50watt rating.

This is the speaker I put in my amps so I tested them to make sure they held up. I dimed a 100w JMP through one of them and couldn't hurt it. I'm convinced the 50w rating is very conservative.

Re: Experience with Various Greenback Clones

i was looking into a greenback and my local music shop recommended weber speakers. I still wish mine was a little warmer but look into them. Really early breakup just like greenbacks. Inexpensive but good quality too.

I got the alnico signature 12... FYI

Re: Experience with Various Greenback Clones

Considering Weber never offered any 1.75" voice coil until Jim Seavall came along, I don't see how they could do a greenback clone.

Anyway, Scumback is the way to go here.

For a 2x12, I would recommend an M75 and H75 mix (at 65 watts each)

Re: Experience with Various Greenback Clones

I've used g-backs, and G12H30s (hellatone version), and the Pvt Jacks. Love all of them for great rock music, but the Pvt Jacks are 50 watts a pop.

I'm sorry, what is this based upon ??? I mean, nearly all their British speakers have 1.75"voice coils...

I use these also!

Re: Experience with Various Greenback Clones

I have only used the Greenback for my YBA-1 head in a 2x12 cab but I hear the creamback is just as good
