coil splitting-ive done that mod....but i havent experimented much with pickup phasing. exactly what kind of sound can you expect to get from that? like say on my ibanez GIO i have an splitting SH-5 bucker at the bridge, then a single coil middle, and a single coil neck. this kinda could set me up for a ridiculous amount of combinations. 
ive noticed brian mays setup on his guitar.ive always loved his tone. isnt that where he gets that "nasal" sound? from the phase switches? i know he has three single coils, phase switches and series/parallel switches.
although i have been told that putting pickups out of phase makes them sound weak...so you need series/parallel to make it sound right. correct?
someone explain to me the basics....
