ExplorerPickups

Changed out Burstbuckers pros for a 2 and a 3 .What a difference in sound the pros were almost screechy even after lowering them and eq-ing the amp.

Re: ExplorerPickups

Yeah, the Pros can be a bit clattery sounding...yet also somehow too bassy at the same time. What you are hearing is basically just the difference between A5 and A2 magnets, as BB2/3 and BB Pro neck/bridge can have about the same number of winds, respectively.

Did you get your BB 2 and 3 pulled from a guitar, or as a Gibson accessory (in a clear plastic Gibson case)? If the former, they are wax potted; if the latter, they are not.

Re: ExplorerPickups

i got them as an accessory and i like the idea of no wax the coils vibrate differently somehow and are more open sounding.

+1. I really like the sound of unpotted PU's. If they're made right, like Seth's, feed back isn't an issue for most players.

Re: ExplorerPickups

Just picked up an explorer with BB pros and I'm not a fan of them at all. I really like the BB3, so I'm debating throwing some A2s in them and using them in another guitar. I'm thinking about a Diablo - Demon setup for the explorer.

Re: ExplorerPickups

The A2 BB 1, 2 & 3 should sound great in an Explorer. But the absolute best sounding Explorer I've ever played had Seths in it.
