Extending Pickup wires

I've just installed a used single coil Texas special in my Strat Project and found that the wires aren't long enough to reach the switch in the control cavity. What is the best method to extend these? Baring in mind I have a vintage route and space is tight.

Also I also have a Texas special mid single coil (brand new), any reason why the stagger on the pole pieces between the two are quite different? Notably the "G-String" magnet. It's very high on the new mid-texas special but flat on the neck version. Did I get a dodgy pickup?

Just grab some similar wire, solder the appropriate extension lengths to each lead, and tape or shrink tube the exposed solder joint.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the Texas Special -- apparently one just doesn't have a vintage stagger.

I bet that mid pickup is staggered for a left-handed guitar. I had some 57/62 pickups like that. Purchased separately and one was for a lefty. Not may people look at that. Take the middle pickup, turn it 180 degrees and I bet the poles will match exactly with the others.
