F-spaced question

I think I need an F sapced Bridge, after asking some pick up advice questions on here and the DMZ tech(who recommended F spaced B/N) and my own research. I went to go check out my RG and my neck pu, the strings line up over the poles perfectly, the bridge is a different story, they are all off the poles and the E strings are both on the outer edge of the poles. So F-spaced? And this would probably explain why I am not digging my JB, if this is the case. Thanks guys

Re: F-spaced question

Yes, you want F-Spaced or TB-Spaced. As for not digging the JB, it could be that the JB doesn't sound good in your guitar. How are the inner strings?

Re: F-spaced question

The F-spaced or TB-spaced thing only applies to the bridge pickup, the neck will always be ordinary bucker spaced.
And yes, if yours is an Ibanez RG, especially if it's one with a trem (most probably an Edge) then it will most definitely need a TB-spaced bucker in the bridge.
In any case, having the E strings be on the outside of the poles is a dead giveaway.

However, although several people, myself included, will attest that they can clearly hear a difference, it has more to do with the balance in volume between the strings that do line up correctly and the ones that don't, especially when bending strings.
It rarely has an appreciable effect on the tone of the pickup.

Adjusting the pole pieces however, along with pickup height IMO makes a HUGE difference.
It happened to me more than once where a pickup sounded bland and/or wrong in a guitar and then turned out that all that it needed was a simple adjustment in height (both the pickup itself as well as individual adjustment of its' screw poles).
Made all the difference in the world.

I tell you, if people actually tried that there'd be a lot less returns...

Re: F-spaced question

mine is fixed bridge, but all of the strings on the bridge are offset on the poles, and the E strings are on the outer edge of the poles. So it needs replaced with an F spaced, correct?

your question was answered in each of the posts

I concur
+1
yes
you do

Re: F-spaced question

You need F-spaced only if you hear a drop-off on the E strings. That they are not lined up dead-center is not a problem.

Re: F-spaced question

^ does the size of the bar magnet make much of a difference in this? i understand that the poles obviously have a lot to do with the shape or spread of the magnetic field, but would guess that having a longer rather than shorter bar mag may help in these instances?

Re: F-spaced question

Longer magnet doesn't matter. Even a 2.25" mag is plenty long enough to touch enough of the outside poles to get the field up there as strong as with the other 4 strings.
