Faber - wow!

I saw people here and over on TGP raving about the Faber stuff so I took a chance and splurged on the tail piece kit with steel bushings. Very impressed! I can definitely notice more sustain and a fuller tone.

For folks familiar with Faber, is the pre-notched bridge really drop in? The website claims it is. “No additional tools necessary” or so they say. Seems like you would still need to cut the saddles, no?

I was looking at Faber stuff for my Gibbo, but they don't have black bridges. :(

I really wish they did. I dropped a Schaller STM in my Les Paul, but I honestly noticed a very slight darkening of the tone as opposed to the stock API aluminum bridge. But it looks so cool, so oh, well.

Aw yeah, all they have is nickel and gold. Maybe you can ask them if they plan to have black available? I emailed them twice with questions and they responded pretty quick both times.

Wait, I thought stock Gibson hardware was all zinc alloy? I thought I read that somewhere. Hmm…

It used to be at some point. In the eighties and 90's, all of their Schaller-made stuff was.

The recent API is model-dependant. My LP tribute came with a lightweight bridge and tailpiece which honestly was great, and I wouldn't have swapped out if it weren't for me wanting to black the guitar out.

Ah I see. My SG is mid 90s and it’s definitely zinc. Figures mine is from the “cheap” era haha. :)

I think I might. I'm going to leave the black tailpiece as it is, because it is a Gotoh aluminum tailpiece with Kluson steel studs.

But yeah, as much as the Schaller STM looks cool as hell, I'd really like to get some aluminum back in there.
