factors that affect string tension?

Let's say I have a guitar with a stop tailpiece.
If I were to adjust the hieght of that tailpiece so as to change the angle the strings pass over the bridge, then retune to the same pitch as before' would i change my string tension?
I also ask this question in regard to changing the angle of the neck in relation to the body.

Does higher string tension equal bolder tone?

Re: factors that affect string tension?

If you raise the stops that screw into the body this won't make a big difference in string tension but to my ears it affects the guitars natural resonance (unplugged). It also reduces the break angle of the strings which is really whats affecting the resonance of the guitar. I have a LP studio and a Standard. I have always top wrapped the Studio, but not the satandard. The studio is less reonant than the standard and the break angle is far less than it should be. I recently installed a set of graphite saddles, I lowered the posts back down and restrung the guitar normally and all of a sudden the guitar became more lively and more resonant. The string tension is a little tighter than it was when it was top wrapped but not to any major degree.
