Anyone have any experience? Just picked up a 100 watt blue alnico speaker. It's really fat sounding, and I'm loving it.

Re: Fane speakers

Re: Fane speakers

Aparently I got a sweet deal on this speaker. It's in fantastic shape. The guy had a Scumback, too, but it was sold already.

Re: Fane speakers

I know its a huge strectch for you guys, but you mind giving a little information on the speaker?..I mean, specs, pics or something?? I know your real busy and all very busy and you have no time and ****...
Anyway, ALL those new production Alnicos; Celestion, Fane, Eminence are amazing sounding speakers, but whats ironic being how good they sound, is that they don't sound anywhere near as good as the vintage speakers, but the vinatage speakers are all played out by now as a general rule of thumb..I don't even bother trying to find them anymore. BTW..wtf is a 'Alnico Blue 100 watt Fane' anyway ??

Re: Fane speakers

Apparently it was originally an alternative to the 15 watt alnico blue Celestion that was in the AC30's. This thing handles a TON more power, and seems thicker. I really like it.

Re: Fane speakers

The Alnico fanes are cool speakers but have little in common with a Celestion alnico or an older ceramic Fane and I think most folks are looking for one of those 2 things when they get one.

Re: Fane speakers

^ True, but the OP could have come across a hidden gem. Like everything else, it's all subjective. With his hands, guitar, amp, room &cet it may be pure win!

Trevorus. I owned a set of Scumbacks for a time but in the end they did not work for me. I am currently using Eminence Wizards, Swamp Thangs, the Fanes mentioned above, and a Weber alnico.

I'm sure that's true. They are definitely different speakers. Vox went to Fane in the early 90´s apparently, and got something different than the Celestion Blues. That's what I was talking about, not that they were equivocal.

Re: Fane speakers

No...no...

I was just making a general statement about the alnico Fanes...

Most folks have never tried them but because they are British, alnico and have blue frames many (most?) folks think they are a G12 Alnico Celestion knock off and thats just not the case.

Yeah, they're definitely different. It's amazing how thick this speaker made my little open backed 112 can sound, and the 100 watt rating is a bonus.

Re: Fane speakers

the 100w rating probably has something to do with the thick tone. the higher the power rating usually the warmer and smoother the speaker

Re: Fane speakers

I have a recent Hiwatt 4x12 cab with modern Fanes. Great cleans and perfect break-up sound. Though part of the sound is the cabinet the Fanes are in. The Hiwatt has a boxy, closed-in, 'hallway' sound, which I like, but is heavily influential on the resulting tone. The only thing similar is my Fender SuperReverb (blackface reissue) with Weber 10" speakers. Has a similar boxy, in-a-hallway kind of tone.
