Fat and bright neck humbucker

Boogeyman of Tone
has to be four conductor, im not assed what brand.

would a 59 do this?

i heard some clips of sly D's fred in the neck it sounds good, how about a paf pro neck?

i want something i can use with my no load tone pot wide open and not worry about hurting peoples ears

Re: Fat and bright neck humbucker

59N...or for similar tone but with slightly more upper harmonics: Jazz N.

The Jazz N now comes standard with 4 conductor cable.

I prefer the Jazz N...so does Seymour, or so we're told.

Re: Fat and bright neck humbucker

I just recieved a nickel covered Jazz neck to go in my new gordon smith :D

I was looking for somethign with maybe a fatter tone for a bit of variation

hows the 59 neck under a bit of gain?

I want something that wont flab out on me

Im getting a soldering iron this weekend so I wanna try to learn to install my own neck pups.

:smack:

its going in a poplar bodied strat with a rosewood board, maple neck

yes i specified poplar, I prefered it when I tried out a few guitars at the guys workshop.. so no flaming me on it :D:D:D

I like the neck pup in it, but it feels like its holding back from what it could be. If I dont like it as much i'll just put it in my Ibanez RS no problem and I'd get even more soldering experience!

One question, is the wiring gonna be the same for a gutiar with a treble bleed mod on the volume + no load tone pot to a normal setup or will it be more complicated to wire up.

(wiring newb)

thanks

Re: Fat and bright neck humbucker

What you want is a Bill Lawrence L-500c. It is a tad brighter than a strat neck pickup but, It is alot fatter

Re: Fat and bright neck humbucker

oh and i'd like a singing quality out of the neck pup, which will most likely be paired with a CC at the bridge in the near future.

I like my bridge to sound nice and throaty and my neck to sound clear but fat.

Re: Fat and bright neck humbucker

Fatter/deeper than the Jazz N = the 59N.

The Seth Lover would be a good choice too. Looser bass and less treble (IMO!) but more mids than the Jazz or 59N. Fat tone!

Re: Fat and bright neck humbucker

Id say a PAF PRO is what your describing fat and bright, great under gain and nice and transparent when clean, has a sort of glassy sound to it but still remains big in the mix also the midrange is tweeked in a way that solos sound really tubular like slash in sweet child of mine. Also has a slight growl in the mids. Otherwise a PGN not as much bass as a 59 but has a nice top end and is still real smooth with the alnico 2 mag.

Re: Fat and bright neck humbucker

nuni, the smooth blues thingy on my SC page was recorded with the 59n.. but as you know the bass was turned to full also.
i can record something for you if you want to

Re: Fat and bright neck humbucker

Rio Grande makes some nice pickups that would work well for this. I believe the Texas model is what you'd want.

You can, you just need to make sure you order it with 4 conductor wiring. I have a 4 conductor BBQ, I don't remember if it cost any more than a 2 conductor model.

Yeah a PAF PRO was a consideration. Can you coil split those?
You can split a paf pro. It is four wire.
