Fat(ter) strat

Hello everyone, i just bought myself a new amp to use with my strat(laney lh50, beautiful amp)

and about a year ago i came asking for advice on higg output tight humbucker for the bridge...

But now i am back, searching for a new replacement as my band has completely changed direction... I am now looking for the fattest(yet clear) humbucker for the bridge position,
and have been thinking about either a JB or custom custom, but have also considered other brands such as lace, dimarzio and so on... The type of music we have ventured onto is kind of bluesy hard rock(think modern-ish heavier guns n roses)
and i need a fat humbucker that is not harsh but has enough output for the metal side of music. Also a either a single coil sized humbucker(was thinking lil 59) or single coil for the neck pickup spot for clean sounds and humbucker like thick solos... Any tips?

(oh, also i know i should take this in the amp section, but am just wondering, when i turn off the amp, it makes some really silent crack(like a mouse click) sound every a couple of second for a short time, is that a problem i should worry about?)

Re: Fat(ter) strat

For the bridge position humbucker, consider the SD Perpetual Burn. It manages to combine a bunch of capabilities into one unit.

IMO, the amp question deserves a separate thread of its own in the amp section. Include more details of the issue. e.g. What is your switching off routine? How long had the amp been running before you switched it off? When was the amp last re-valved? When did the amp last have a professional service? If you have a circuit revision number for the amp, include that.

Re: Fat(ter) strat

The normal perpetual burn(there are 3 models afterall) and yeah the amp was on for like 2 hours or so

Re: Fat(ter) strat

I like the perpetual burn pickups, but wouldnt it sound too thin(it was clear and good sounding, but could it make those fat, almost sg/lp ish fat tones(obvioiusly not quite because of scale and so on, but thinking of fatness)? Because my amp sounds quite trebly naturally)

Re: Fat(ter) strat

A fatter Strat? The Custom Custom. I don't know if you can actually describe something as fat & clear, as they are sort of opposites, but it sounds like the CC will have the fat part covered. You can always split it or run in parallel for the clear part.

Re: Fat(ter) strat

My favorite fat strat combo is JB and 2 Hot Rails–can cover so many genres. I've used it for Praise and Worship music all the way to Hard Rock.

Re: Fat(ter) strat

right now my fat strat has dual SSL-1s and an overwound brobucker @ 11k. I don't think it helps that it's a mahogany strat. (Why Fender won't make one a production run for those who want a bit more low-end from a strat, is beyond me.)

As for fat and clear, what about an Alt 8, or a parallel axis trembucker?

Forum Bro Artietoo really digs those parallel axis pickups. Hopefully he will pop in and give you his thoughts of it in a Strat.
