Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

What are you favorite speakers for cranked blackface fenders chasing Hendrix style tones....except Eminence. I just don't like eminence and I really don't know why.

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

I like Celestion Lynchbacks with the blackface amp I have. As the other guys were saying the G12H30 is great in that application too. I like the G12H30's for pretty much everything. I mix them with Vintage 30's when playing hard rock for some "body".

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

Wouldn't chase a Hendrix tone using a blackface Fender amp but, if I did, I would use JBLs.

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

The blackface bassman can do a pretty good hendrix. I have 2. The aa864...no. not so much. However I have an all original ab165....even still has the death cap and 2 prong cord....can do a pretty good hendrix. That said it has a 65 big bassman cab with 2 16ohm 70/80s for an 8 ohm mismatch. I hate 70/80s, but they sound great with this amp. I don't get it.

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

Me blackface Bassman sounds excellent through a 4x12 Marshall greenback cabinet, but it also sound excellent through the Jensen loaded Fender 2x12 cabinet. Can't go wrong either way. In a combo I'd go Jensen all the way.

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

I haven't successfully gotten Hendrix like tones out of a blackface amp to date. I only have a Super Reverb RI with stock speakers however. It's sounds great for a lot of other things. Perhaps this thread is only about Bassmans rather than Blackfaces.

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

a good fuzz face into a bf amp with the right speaker and a strat with vintage style pups can do hendrix but its really all about the chops/feel/phrasing

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

I have a Dunlop Fuzz Face RI. And an old Strat with old PUs. I will have to give this a try. Now, what to do about the hands?

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

the jensens in your super wont help ya get there but run that super into a 4x12 with 30w celestions and youd be surprised

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

The crusty old Oxford in my '67 Fender Deluxe (with original glass).

Jensens and JBL 120s are also supposed to be the bee's knees.

(EDIT - just saw within OP post "for Hendrix tone"... no clue Fender-wise but surely vintage Celestion G12H30s or similar)

Re: Favorite blackface fender speakers....go

No, not just bassmans. I was doing some research on Hendrix and I was surprised to learn that he was known to use Fender amps in the studio. Now at the time I would have to assume those were either tweed or blackface as most studios would have had equipment at least a few years old. I just found it interesting. I also am fully aware that a lot of his tone was in his playing style, however I tried with my old fender bassman cab that has 70s alnico eminence...nope. Tried my old Peavey Butcher cab that has celestion g12k-85...nope. Also tried my Marshall 1936 with British made Vintage 30s...nope. I haven't tried the G12H30s though, but maybe I will pick up some used ones. No, I'm not retarded, I know I can hook a plexi into green backs and be there, but I'm retired and trying new things keeps me sane.

In his Fender period Jimi was playing a Dual Showman so I would start with a JBL 15 inch
