Favorite free VST plugins?

Re: Favorite free VST plugins?

Go to http://bedroomproducersblog.com lots of great free and open spurce plugins there.
Also check out BLUE CAT, and Softube's Saturator.

However - the best free plugins are the ones in your DAW. Accumulating plugins is nice, but knowing how to fully utilize the ones you already have is nicer. :)

Well, I went looking because Reaper didn't have a reverb plugin that was doing the job for me. I wanted a nice-sounding plate 'verb and stumbled upon the epicVerb plugin I linked to.

Re: Favorite free VST plugins?

even though my DAW has a lot of effects, I used to grab this all the time for certain stuff. it had a different sound that just worked in some situations. it's pretty old, but whatever.

This one also has a certain something I can't make other VST delays seem to replicate (maybe it's the filter?). So gritty and low fi, it's awesome. If I had it in a pedal I'd use it all the time:

Wasn't somebody supposed to be making a pedal or effects unit that you could load VST plugins into?

Re: Favorite free VST plugins?

LePou and Ignite amps make incredible free amp sims. Ignite's Emissary is an amazing VST.

Re: Favorite free VST plugins?

Welcome to the dumpster-dive of freebie plugins. I've got a bunch of good ones.

If you want some incredible reverb, you have to use an impulse response host, like SIR 1 (Windows only). Then google some wild IRs.

Other sources of reliable plugins are Variety of Sound (freebies that don't suck), Tokyo Dawn Labs (freebies that don't suck, paid upgrades) and Vladg Sound (a programmer with his own stuff, who's collaborated with Tokyo Dawn).
These guys concentrate on signal processing like limiters, EQs and channel strips. Also Terry West (donationware, with a few freeware); the graphic designs on his Windows plugins look like 70's disco, but they work and sound great.

Lots of other stuff: there's an ongoing thread on the Reaper forum that's posted lots of freeware synths (that's a link to the most recent page, which also tags the ongoing KVR threads... what a smart guy).

Awesome. Thanks, man.

Ever use LeCab with a real amp into a load box with a line-level output?

I have used it from both an emulated speaker out and a preamp out. Definitely helps the harshness and is handy when I am going demos/ writing at 1am. But I ALWAYS go back and record with my amp + mic.
