Favorite Guitar Pickups

Re: Favorite Guitar Pickups

I purposely posted about pickups for a style that are more objectively the correct choice than subjectively enjoyable.

Re: Favorite Guitar Pickups

"Favorite pickups" have to be qualified with the actual guitar they are mated to, and even to a lesser extent your primary amp.

For me, I have to break them down by class:

Passive:

HH combo: Distortion/'59N
HH Runner up: Evo2/Air Norton (thinking about the Liquifire for the neck lately too....)

HSS: PATB2/PA Stack/PA Stack

SSS: Duncan YJM set

Active:

HH: 81/60 (Include SPC for superstrats only)

HSS: 85/SLV/SLV + SPC (MkIII Renegade Signature set :D )

SSS: SA/SA/SA (David Gilmour set, includes active EXG and SPC controls)

Re: Favorite Guitar Pickups

For blues/classic rock - Bare Knuckle Abraxas set in my PRS Bernie.

For a slightly more modern vibe - Bare Knuckle Rebel Yells in my Gibson Firebird Studio.

Honourable mention because I used it for twenty years - Seymour JB in my '63 SG Junior.

Actually, I don't even know why I'm posting to this thread. I haven't even read the posts. But My thought is that it is a totally ridiculous thread...if you got 100 replies you will probably get 90 different answers.

This thread might as well ask "what is your favorite food?", and "when do you like to eat it?".

Waste.

All I have to say is yoda

Re: Favorite Guitar Pickups

My favorite pickups are:

The humbucker in Ed Van Halen's Frankenstein on the first album.
Brian May's Tri-Sonics in his original 'old girl'
John Lennon's P-90's in his mid-60's Casino
Whatever Jeff Beck was using on There And Back
The humbuckers in Alex Lifeson's ES guitar used on Working Man
The humbuckers in Derek Trucks SG
The pickups in Rick Nielsen's Hamers
The humbuckers in The Edge's Explorer
The humbuckers in Eric Clapton's 1960 Beano Les Paul and his Fool SG
The pickups in Angus Young's SG(s), and Malcolm's Gretsch
The pickups Jimi Hendrix had in his guitar on Axis Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland

I have no idea what they all are specifically, and I'll never own or play them, but they are my favorites. I never get tired of hearing them, when played by those guys.

If you want favorites that I own, that changes weekly, too frequently to post about it in one thread.

Re: Favorite Guitar Pickups

I have several diff pups I like, but if I had to pick a favorite Go-to that nearly always makes me happy, is the Duncan Custom 8

Re: Favorite Guitar Pickups

Duncan Distortion
Duncan Custom
DiMarzio SuperDistortion
Pearly Gates

Re: Favorite Guitar Pickups

Howdy,

Duncan vintage Soap bars (Gibson Les Paul Special) and DiMarzio Twang Kings (tele). I'm a Keith Richards disciple. I must say I was disappointed with Duncan's '59s I had in my old 335; especially the neck pickup.
