Feedbackkkk. Do I need new tubes maybe?

Lots of feedback from my Classic 30, especially when boosted by a DS1. Had it for a year and a half now. Time for new power toobs? It's only at bedroom volumes usually, but I'm in a band now, so it's gonna be working harder. What do you guys think? Is this tubes or something else? How do I check? Sorry, not much tube amp experience. :bigok:

Re: Feedbackkkk. Do I need new tubes maybe?

You can only have so much gain, while playing an amp loudly, before feedback will happen.

Things that can make it worse.... Hollowbody guitar, microphonic or poor pickups, pickups set too close to strings, standing too close to amp with Metal Zone flat out, perhaps microphonice preamp tubes. Tap them gently with chopstick, if you hear alot of sound, then some new 12ax7 tubes needed.

I would try moving back from the amp first. As the guys have said, once you jack he gain up, you're going to get feedback if you're too close.

Re: Feedbackkkk. Do I need new tubes maybe?

So far my classic 50 has been bad about feedback on the lead channel or with gain. I think it's the stock tubes.

It's done it since it was new, the tubes don't like getting rattled.

I don't know why you guys are saying gain+volume=feedback. My halfstack doesn't have any feedback issues even standing close with tons of gain and cranked. The guitar might get vibrated into microphonics, but it's not the same kind of feedback.

Dean Evo -> DS-1 set to boost -> Peavey C30 Gain channel, gain between 7 and 10. Usually standing about 10 feet from the amp. Happens facing any direction.

Is it a high pitched squeal even when your strings are damped? If so it is a microphonic pickup.

I would think, depending on what you ahve for a boost it could be just standard feedback. The microphonic pickups are my first thought though as LJK suggested.

Being vague will only invite "shoot in the dark" responses. You seem to simply want us to confirm your suspicion...

Hey, you, need, new, tubes! There you have it.
