Fender Almost Made It Back Into My Good Graces

Fender has just come out with the new "Modern Player" series and offers this at a very, very attractive price:

However, as cool as that guitar and price may seem, I know deep down that it's just another reason for Fender to jack up prices on all their American made guitars. I would rather see them stop making all of these B.S. models like the roadworns, pawnshops, modern player, etc... and just offer the American standard and Deluxes at a reasonable cost. They need to get rid of all that crap and go back to prices a few years ago so American strats should be $899 and deluxes should be $1199.

Photo of back? Is that another fretboard + skunkstripe guitar?

I don't agree that the road worn stuff is such a terrible thing to do. They are nice instruments. Not as nice as more expensive ones but better than the bulletproof paint models they are based on.

For a back up this would be it right here. Only gripe is I wish it could be upgraded to have a Floyd. But if I lost all my gear this would be one of the first guitars i'm looking at. Although some might say why buy this when you could go to Ibanez and so many other brands and my response would be nothing else plays and feels like a fender.

I went to Guitar Center yesterday to get some strings and they happened to have some of those Modern Player models in stock, most notably the Jaguar and the Telecaster ones. Being a Tele guy, I decided to try the Tele out and for the price tag ( $399.99 ) , it's actually a well made, great sounding guitar. I'm now considering buying the darn thing to add to my collection.

Fender DOES have American made guitars starting in the $800-$900 range. The American Special line.

It's called inflation. Labour costs increase with time, so does overhead. You can't have prices from 10 years ago today.

I saw these the other day. I gotta say, I like the looks of that HSH Strat.

WRONG. You missed the part where I specifically referenced "American standard and deluxe" models. I assure you that Fender isn't so affected by inflation that they have to jump prices up $200 per guitar, especially when extremely high unemployment has been sustained for the past 5 years. Labor has gotten cheaper. The world economy is weak right now. Materials are cheaper than they have been in quite some time. If anything, Fender should be lowering prices.

Personally, I find the American Special series to be one of the best deals out there in guitarland. Soooo much goodness for the price.

I don't know about you guys, but I sure wish I were making what I made ten years ago.

Re: Fender Almost Made It Back Into My Good Graces

Almost every guitar I have is American, yet I still made one of my main guitars a Modern Player Tele Plus. Everything was good about it, with the exception of the pots, wiring, and knobs. The tuners, bridge, nut, fretwork, and output jack were all perfectly fine. Pickups are OK, but I usually plan to change them anyway. I changed the pickguard screws too, because the stock ones are big and look weird.

You probably saw this in my other thread, but here's my upgraded Modern Player. It sounds and plays perfect.
