Hey all, i've been offered a '63 Fender Bandmaster Reverb head for £300 (GBP), how doest that sound to you guys? Its about $600. Is that a fair price? What sort of thing should i check out before buying?
Kyuss, is that a 63 or 73? I could be wrong but I think the BM Reverbs were first made in 1968. Check out the link below.
Regardless of what year it is, if it sounds good buy it. It's a point-to-point wired classic that is bound to go up in value no matter when it was made.
As for checking it out, make sure there are no push/pull pots installed and that the normal channel sounds sort of like the reverb channel; it will sound a bit cleaner and won't have reverb, natch. Sometimes people mod the normal channel to be some sort of high gain thing. Not that that is bad, but it's better to know before you buy it. Try to make sure it has the tubes it is supposed to have (ie 6L6 rather than EL whatever).
The cool thing is that most any mod (save for other holes having been drilled, etc.) can be reversed.
A Bandmaster w/t reverb is a good score!! Kinda hard to find. Falstaff is
riight,No way it's 63'. I'm sure it's a silver face right?? There's dateing codes
you can check. Regardless, I'm sure it sounds sweet. Make sure there's no
60 cycle hum in the amp. If you do find it to be in disepair ,Use it as a bargining chip.
hmm, well it was '60 something, i thought he said '63, but your right it is a silverface, didnt think of that. Its the big box one. There are no visible mods, it all sounds as it should, the reverb and tremolo work perfectly.
