Fender Amp

I've been trying amps for about 4 months now and I've narrowed down to three.

1. Marshall JCM2000 combo 2X12
2. Fender Twin 100 watt 2X12
3. Fender 65 Twin Reverb 85 Watts 2X12

Play mostly classic rock and blues.

What do you all think?

Also

Has anyone tried the Radial Tonebone overdrive pedal?

Thanks

Re: Fender Amp

I think the Marshall is way, way more versatile. I saw Johnny A. recently playing one. That and lots of pedals. Sounded great. I played Twins for years. Great amps but they have two tones: loud & clean and really loud & clean. :) Lew

Re: Fender Amp

I would go with the fender because im quite partial to fender cleans and i think the jcm2000 is an amp better suited for more modern voicing plus nothing sounds like a fender for blues.

Re: Fender Amp

How big a venue are you planning to play? If we're talking bedroom or garage, you might want to scale back on the fenders a bit. No more than 40 watts. And even that will be too many. I'm not sure how many watts that Marshall is. Also, you'll want to look at a MasterVolume type amp if you're playing small joints.

Re: Fender Amp

When you say 100 watt Twin 2x12 I assume you talking about an Evil Twin...late model, channel switching...etc, is that right? If so that's a killer amp, the DSL, is a great amp as well, and so is a Twin Reverb...I haven;t helped at all have I? :laugh2:

I tell you this, I bought a late 60's NON MV Twin almost 10 years ago, I've never done a gig without that amp...It will not crunch on it's own but with the aid of a few choice pedals, I can get tons of killer tones. I love mine, and woldn't sell it for anything! If I had it to do over again, I'd makethe same choice!

Re: Fender Amp

My choice would be the Twin. It got 100w but switchable to 25.
The TS2000 Marshall is not that great and far from beeing as sharp as the
JCM 800 ot 900.
Personally, I think that a 100w is too much.

Re: Fender Amp

Thanks again,

Scott, most of our gigs are outdoors but in compact areas. I also feel that the 85 watts in the Twin reverb is too much. I tried the 40 watt 4X10 fender super reverb but it just doesn't sound as full. Must be the 4X10's vs 2X12's.

The Twin I was referring to is the evil twin but they are no longer available new since they are discontinued. I'm don't think the new Twins sound as good.
