Going to demo it again today. I plugged into one over the weekend and I was impressed. Fender should not have made these a limited run! WTF? I'm surprised no one posted about it yet! Fantastic portable combo w a western looking tolex. Here are specs from Musicians Enemy, discontinued.

"The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Western is a guitar combo amplifier that combines ample power for the average club shindig with portability and the rich warmth of a genuine Fender tube amp. Helps you add a little Texas hot sauce to your American rock, blues, and Southern rock sound. Fat tone with a little top end bite and clarity. The western-tooled tolex covering looks as good and wears as tough as your favorite boots. Wheat-colored grille cloth and an amber jewel light complete the look.

3 channels make it all the equipment you'll need except your guitar. Delivers 40W to a single 12" speaker. Includes 2-button footswitch and amp cover.

It's really a no brainer that the HRD sounds better with a replacement speaker, as the stock speaker is way too murky.

what's the upcharge for the new speaker and cabinet? -usually the limited HRDs aren't too bad. Some of the custom shop amps where they did basically the same thing with the bassman (bassbreaker) and pro jr (woody and two tone) were subject to pretty heavy price gouging.

Re: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Western 1x12

And what's under that Tex Ritter tooled tolex and the special amber jewel? Anything better than the stock HRD ? I don't think so...good luck.

Re: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Western 1x12

So other than the cosmetics, they've already gone ahead and replaced the speaker for you.

Throw a better set of tubes in there and you'll have a killer medium-sized amp.

wtf (meaning in this case: well that's funny). it has a really nice sounding speaker in it.

Actually it has the speaker upgrade, tolex & grill cloth & 3 channels, additional gain stage. The Hotrod Deluxe has 2 channels and needs a speaker upgrade. So $21 more than retail for the Deluxe is a fantastic deal.

Re: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Western 1x12

not a big fan of the devilles third channel this one is probably no different. The again the new speaker may change things...

Incorrect. The HRD has three channels.

Re: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Western 1x12

More Gain is the 3rd channel on those amps. Me personally, I'd just go for a used HRD and choose my own speaker. WGS makes some nice ones for not a whole lot.

Well I went back and gave it a go. I compared it with a Hot Rod Deluxe. It IS the same as the Hot Rod Deluxe except for the speaker and cosmetic upgrades. For sound the speaker upgrade is a plus. I think it sounded a lot better with the Eminence. A little more twang, more clarity. Still a nice amp & $21 more for a better speaker.

Re: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Western 1x12

I played one last week at Guitar Center. Visually, the amp was waaaaayyyyy cool, it looked like a custom Mesa Boogie amp.

I didn't compare it to a standard Fender Hot Hot Deluxe, but on its own it was a sweet sounding amp that I wanted to buy.

Why didn't I buy it? Guitar Center was charging $899- a standard Hot Rod Deluxe is about $699. I didn't see a $200 difference or want to spend the $200 on a cosmetic upgrade.
