Fender Jaguar HH Special vs. Gibson SG Faded

Time to treat myself to a new guitar and I can't decide between these two.

Either way they'll probably be treated to a Phat Catn with a JB bridge I play mainly from Indie Experimental (Clean delay) to Hardcore and I'm mainly a lead player but some rhythm would be good. (Think from Eisley, to Receiving End of Sirens).

I've played the SG it's a nice safe, standard guitar, but I've played my friends Jaguar HH (the black one with stoptail) and loved the short scale. I've heard the trem (wouldn't use it much anyway) is pretty good on the jag especially with the gibson style bridge piece on there.

Anyone have any experience with these? I mean either way I can return for the other but I'd like to get it right the first time. I'm leaning towards the Jag, I've read the MF reviews and all seems good but I'm just wary of spending 1k on an MIM guitar.

I would try and find the Jag used for less money.

I think my shop has one of the all-black dual humbucker Jags with the TOM and stop tail for like $700...and my sister's Cyclone HH was only $250. Fenders with humbuckers are not expensive...especially if you don't mind a thick poly finish like the MIM Jags have.

I think the SG will give you a much better value for your money...it's harder to come by an affordable set-neck with a thin nitro finish than it is a bolt-neck Fender-style guitar...and i find the thinner finish really makes those guitars resonant. The faded series is my go-to for sweet guitars under a thousand bucks....those and the Fender Highway 1 series...

I'd also look at the Les Paul Jr they just reissued if you dig that P90 tone...that thing is a monster.

EDIT: it didn't occur to me until after i posted that, before i got the job at the shop and actually got to play dozens of guitars a day, i definitely would've said Jaguar 100% all day every day...

i dunno if i've learned more about what makes a guitar sound good or if i've just become accustomed to my preferences, but i play the faded SG's way more often than anything from Fender Mexico...

I can't speak to the MIM classic player Jags but I can of the Made in Japan black HH Jags as a good friend of mine bought one as his first guitar and still has it a few years later, stock. Sounds, plays and looks awesome.

I'd take a HH Jaguar over an SG just for the extra tonal possibilities offered by the controls on Jaguars, not to mention it reeks of cool.
