My 97 Fender Jazz MIM had a stock pickup in the bridge position with shattered magnets, which I replaced with a Quarter Pounder. I went with the QP because I love them in my Yamaha (big, fat, hot powerful tone) and it sounds really cutting in the jazz.
After playing it for awhile, I noticed I need to roll off the bridge a bit to round out the tone with the neck pickup, even after dropping the bridge pup deep in the cavity and raising the neck to the highest possible height. The QP is simply much hotter than the stock Fender, obviously.
The local shop has an owner who is a bass player, and says that an Antiquity is an awesome exchange for a neck pickup, and has brilliant depth and tone. The question that I have is, seeing that the Antiquity has been reviewed in some places as being lower output than the stock jazz (not sure if that's true), will I end up just exacerbating the issue? I'd really like to get full, even, equal tone from both pickups at full volume, and would normally just drop another QP in the neck, but I've heard the Antiquity PUPs and their tone is really nice and deep for fingerstyle.
Your thoughts? Rewire for blend instead of VVT? What do you guys think?
