Fender Mustang 4

I have a fender mustang 4, dont care for all the presets but it's what I could afford at the time. Question; there are 3 knobs that simply confuse the heck out of me, 1- Gain 2- volume 3- master. my experience with fender's (Im old school) is simply crank it and use volume on the guitar and you get all the crunch/distortion you could possibly want as well as turn the guitar vol down & you got clean. Does anyone have experience with these amps? How do I set these 3 knobs to get what I describe above?

Well, Gain is the amount of distortion...master would be the overall volume...and I have no idea what the other volume knob is, unless it is there to balance that channel with the other channels. My guess is that the answer is in the manual somewhere.

Remember that these are modeled amps. Gain and master volume are what they would normally be in an amp. Pre and power amp. They can both affect the sound being dirty.

The other volume is what I would label "preset volume", how loud it is but it should not affect tone, just loudness.

With a modeling amp you may need use the gain knob to set the amount of distortion you expect that amp to have with the guitar turned up-with the actual guitar volume set there. Then turn the guitar volume down and it should clean up accordingly depending on how accurate the modeling of the dynamics are.

The volume knob probably sets the volume of the preset compared to other presets and has no bearing on distortion or gain.

The master volume sets the overall volume of the amp in the room, and should also have no bearing on the tone the presets.
