Fender PR Speaker Question

I am thinking about replacing the speaker in my 30 year old Princeton Reverb. I mostly play rock, classic rock, & blues but venturing more into jazz.

Would it make a big difference? What would you recommend?

Thanks

I have a BF Pro Reverb 2x12 combo and I use and love the Weber Ceramic C12NS....It was many years ago that I bought these and I'm sure the model numbers have changed...

Depending on the speaker you choose it will make anywhere form a small difference to a huge difference.

A few years ago I gave a buddy of mine a Weber 10F125 for his Princeton Reverb and it really knocked him out...it took a cool amp into a gigging beast, louder, fuller cleaner and with more punch but under it all still a Princeton Reverb.

Re: Fender PR Speaker Question

oh yeh...mine is a PRII (12 inch and a SS rectifier so its different to your amp) but the fella i play in a duo with uses a silverface princeton (somewhere along the way his amp has had the rectifier changed to ss also - which almost doubles the wattage) - he has an Altec ER10 in it which he loved for 20 years or so until he tried using the prII with the 12. Both of us a working musos who have been using princetons as our main gigging amps for a number of years.

Currently hes using a beautifully musicman restored with 2x10 lorantz speakrs, but hes seriously considering getting an new cab and a 12 in his old princeton now too. Actually the amp is sitting on top of my filing cabinet cos the old 10 inch silverface cabinet has a crack in the speaker baffle and needs replacing. Wierd...the cabinet is pine, but i guess fender were trying to save money by using a particle board baffle for the speaker back in the 70s. So i guess its all these factors combined leading to the change.
However, when before we dismantled john's cab, the silverface princeton was a very bright and present amp that could overdrive nicely at club volumes and is a king in the recording studio (he owns a busy studio), but compared to a 12 inch eqipped amp it sounded less warm and fat. Remember the first boogies were modded princetons with 12 inch speakers.

Depends what you are after tho of course.

Anyway, hope some of this info is useful to you.
