Fender RockPro amps?

Closed Eye

I played one of these at the local oddity guitar shop in San Antonio, Krazy Kat Music (go if you get the chance!), and man...I gotta say...it was awesome. I'm not really sure of the specs but the guy at the counter mentioned it might be a solid state with one tube which I'd be inclined to believe because the front panel said "tube drive". It was incredibly loud, the cleans were spanking like they should be on an SS amp, and the distortion had a nice, natural breakup due to the responsive gain control. Even if it ain't tube though it still rocked really, really hard for a solid-state.

I was wondering if anybody had any experience playing through one of these or knows anything about the amp?

Thanks for the look, help, info.

Re: Fender RockPro amps?

Not bad for a garagey punk type vibe, but like a lot of SS amps, they sound OK at low volume, but turn into hissy buzz when turned up. I remember walking down the hall at a rehearsal place, hearing a punk band with a cheezy tone, and when they opened the door, I looked inside to see what it was......Rock Pro.

I'd be using it for practice with my bassist and in the dorm so I wouldn't be turning it up all that loud so the noisey crickets wouldn't be much of a problem. You're right about that garage rock vibe though! I banged out some White Stripes songs and they sounded great! I'm also pretty surprised that the tone controls are very responsive.

I'd suggest staying away from the Fender SS stuff. They aren't that relaible, they are hard to repair and the tone really isn't all that.
