Fender S-1 Switch

Has Anyone added this to their axe? I am wondering if it may be the simple solution to wiring my strat. I dont necessarily want 80 different pup configurations available, but the ones I do want available, I'd like them easily accesible. Seems like a clever, visually appealing switch system.

its a cool system, lets you get some fatter tones. i didnt know it was available by itself yet

Re: Fender S-1 Switch

I don't think it is available as an aftermarket upgrade yet. But being the lucky owner of an S-1 equipped Fat Strat I can tell you that it really is an awesome upgrade. You get all your traditional Strat tones with the 5-way switch. Depress the S-1 button hidden in the crown of the volume switch and you get 5 more tones from your 5-way switch. And most of the S-1 settings offer humbucker-like combinations of the pickups and offer fatter, warmer sounds. At first I was less than impressed with the stock Fender humbucker in the Fat Strat but thanks to the S-1 "fattening" things up I've decided to keep it stock.

+1

I opened up my strat to look at it. There is a PCB with what looks like 2 DPDT switches surface mounted on the PCB an triggered by one button.

I have a friend in the DFW, TX area and he took his Strat into the small shop where he purchased it. They installed the new switch for him. I emailed him asking the specifics for cost and waiting time. I will get back with you on that. I have not seen it advertised in the eyes of the general public, though. I am sure that is a wise marketing plot on Fender's behalf. Try to sell more guitars for the sake of the switch before releasing the switch itself. Thanks for the feedback, and I'll get back with ya soon!

Fender obviously makes replacement parts for their products so I imagine it would be possible to obtain the needed parts from an authorized Fender service rep/dealer. Whether or not Fender knows and allows their dealers to mod guitars in this way is another matter. And now that you've just told us it's a dealer in the DFW area, good luck! ;)

Hey Bro,

If you do find anything regarding how or where to purchase the S-1 I'd sure appreciate it. It'll give my local tech something else to go "Where do you find this crap!" :laugh2: I gotta keep him pulling his hair out with my Mr. Magoo upgrade ideas. :burnout:

I can't play the guitar but I darn sure have the latest technology on em! :smack:
