I've never had a Fender SSH pickguard before.. I have one on the way.

is it cut out for a regular spaced pickup, or do i need to get F-spaced?

Thanks!

Re: Fender SSH pickguard -- regular or F-spaced?

I'm going to guess out of thin air and say F-Spaced, as most Strats have trems.

Re: Fender SSH pickguard -- regular or F-spaced?

That depends.....if you're buying a used HSS made by Fender that came from a LoneStar or Fat Strat it is not F-spaced (trem spaced) as the Pearly Gates + pickups Fender used in them weren't. I think the later HSS guards from Fender with three screw holes for the bucker are F-spaced. I put a trembucker in an old style Fender guard with no real problem. Had to do a little filing to lengthen the pickup hole.

Incidently the double screw holes on a Duncan trembucker are not as wide as the double holes on the bass side of a Fender pickguard. I found that out the hard way....

i had no idea that there is pickguard fit issues with trembuckers... hmm learn new stuff everyday.... i assumed trembuckers fit any strat guard with a hubucker rout

I'm only talking about pickguards cut for humbuckers without covers, they have a much closer tolerence....like this Lonestar Strat:

Note: Not trem-spaced!

ah yes i see the issue now... those Fender guards with the tight rounded corners must be tight for some pickups...

metlking,
Thanks for the detailed and informative response.
i believe the one i'm getting is a new made by Fender guard, and has the 3 screw holes for the bridge bucker. The humbucker i'm putting in is not f-spaced, so i guess i'm kinda screwed :(
I'll just wait for the guard to arrive and see for sure.

I think it'll fit just fine.....you'll simply have to drill a hole between the two holes on the bass side of the bucker. Fill the old holes from the back with caulk or silly putty or something.....bondo maybe? The tolerence around your pickup may not be that close or clean but I don't believe it'll be that noticable. Good luck!
