Not my cuppa but have seen people do this kind of thing in the past. Perhaps the most prolific is Brian May, who mounted a Vox Distortion Booster in his guitar. You can hear it on some songs on the first two Queen albums and quite prominently on the Smile stuff. He installed it in the pre-Queen days when he needed more dirt/sustain, but stopped using it once he got the Rangemaster and AC30s. No eq though, just a switch to kick it in/out of circuit.
