My buddy ended up buying one of these for a couple hundred bucks. Very cool looking steel. The more he's been playing it though the less he likes the sound. He tells me the high e string is just too bright. Overwhelmingly so. He's lowered the pup as far as it can go. It appears to me to be all original.
So a few questions. If it is all original, are these guys worth anything? Would it be better to just sell it and buy something that sounds better or should I replace the pup for him. I wouldn't think it a big deal, I can always put the old one back. What pickups would you recommend for this thing? Sounds like he definately wants something to tone down the brightness a bit. He plays bluegrass, blues, and slack key.
