Fender Supersonic...yay or nay?

Tried one out today and the cleans sounded absolutely terrific! The gain was also nice but I'm sure pedals would do it better.

They say they are the front end of a bassman and a vibrolux...but are they actually built anything like them inside? Just how well built and reliable are these amps...even though they sound good...?

Re: Fender Supersonic...yay or nay?

How are the gain channels on their own? I'm considering this amp, but I haven't had a chance to play it. I do like to use all the amp's gain options first, so a sea of distortion/overdrive pedals aren't really necessary.

Re: Fender Supersonic...yay or nay?

I played a combo that left me feeling kinda meh........

I then played a head through a 4x12 and it left me with wood!!!!

Thank you Mr Roboto for that...review...

Hahahaha...wood eh...well that combo left me with wood so I'll have to try the head out! I just want to make sure they're not made like crap so they'll be easy to service etc. etc.

Well, tone aside...they are current Fender amps and they are on a rather thin/cheep PCB, Im not knocking Fenders or dogging the tone but they are a pain in the neck to service but no more than another PCB amp...

Re: Fender Supersonic...yay or nay?

the gain channel on its own is AWESOME

it's not like a dumb jcm2000 distortion tone, it's like a thick overdriven fuzzy tone

which is good, since you can get cleans & overdrive tones out of the other 2 channels, it's like a "do everything that doesn't suck" amp

Re: Fender Supersonic...yay or nay?

Might be worth a second look then. Seems like this one, and a TSL 60 head are the frontrunners, and the Fender is $150 less. Not a lot of cash to consider, but if it does what I want it to, and it's cheaper, well then...

Re: Fender Supersonic...yay or nay?

it depends on what kinda tones you're looking for

if you want acdc-ish OD tones & distortion, the marshall is your pony

but if you want pure cleans, bluesy OD and sabbath/gibbons-like gain tones, the supersonic is your pony

Re: Fender Supersonic...yay or nay?

I loved the Super Sonic. I don't know how reliable it is, but the Bassman channel is dead on to my BF Bassman head. It isn't a Marshall, but the OD tones definately get a Brit accent when I played the head through my Marshall C212 cab (V30/G12H30).

Re: Fender Supersonic...yay or nay?

I'm not necessarily looking for just Marshall-esque tones from the gain channels. Between my two bands, and any covers elsewhere, my sound goes from Hendrix to Metallica to Sublime to Danzig, and all points in between. Guess I'm gonna have to try this sucker out myself, and see how it stacks up.

Re: Fender Supersonic...yay or nay?

As far as channel switching Fenders go, it's right at the top of the heap.
I agree that the head on a cab is better, especially for the gain channel, and it's ability to be tight in the lows. Luckily, they come with GT tubes and Vin 30's, so there's no further modding that needs to be done......at least for my taste.

I'd love to have a blonde head/matching 2-12 cab. And as the used prices depreciate, they'll be a great bargain in the near future.
